It's the most wonderful time of year, or so the song says. Christmas is exciting and nostalgic because it awakens something deep within us. It's a blend of memory, wonder, and the warm familiarity of traditions we've carried through the years. The lights, music, scents, and gatherings all work together to stir our hearts in a way few seasons can. The glow of the Christmas tree, the sound of carols, and the crisp winter air remind us of childhood innocence, family moments, and the beauty of slowing down to savor what matters most.

But if we are all honest, one of the most exciting moments, and one we all look forward to with great anticipation, is the giving and exchanging of gifts. It's an important part of the season as it reflects the joy of giving and receiving love, something our hearts were created for. Gifts become symbols of thoughtfulness, connection, and the delight of being known by someone else.

Being known by someone else. What a thought. To be known. Truly known, truly seen, truly understood, and most importantly, truly loved. There is only One Person Who can truly do all that.

"To be known by God is to have a place where I am never misunderstood, never overlooked, and never alone. God does not just see me; I am loved, cherished, and held by Him."

At Christmas, we celebrate the moment God wrapped the greatest gift in swaddling cloths. The gift of Himself. The Great Exchange began in the tiny town of Bethlehem. Jesus took on flesh so he could give us His Spirit; He stepped into darkness so we could live in His light. He was born to die and rise again so we could be born again into a life found only in Christ.

2 Corinthians 8:9 "Though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you by His poverty might become rich.

Luke 2:11 "For unto you is born this day a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."

The Great Gift Exchange of the birth of Jesus is completely different from the way we exchange gifts with one another because His gift was given with no expectation of anything in return. It cost Him everything. When we give gifts at Christmas, we usually exchange them with people we love, and there's a mutual joy and balance in giving and receiving. But the gift of Jesus was one-sided, undeserved, and immeasurably costly. We had nothing to offer or give in exchange for this priceless gift. The Lord had no anticipation of receiving anything back for this precious gift. Yet He gave His Son freely out of pure mercy, grace, and love. Our gifts are temporary, symbolic, and often wrapped in pretty paper. The gift of Jesus is eternal, life-changing, and wrapped in humility. A Savior in a manger who would one day give His life for our redemption and salvation.

Human gift-giving reflects love in small, beautiful ways, but the gift of Jesus defines love and makes Christmas a celebration of the greatest exchange the world has ever known. So, this Christmas, receive His gift where there is no exchange, just giving on God's part. Let the awe and wonder of the birth of Jesus fill and flood your heart with gratitude and delight as you not only receive this gift, but also cherish this gift every single day!

Merry Christmas!
