A Priceless Inheritance

At the time of this blog, my parents are still living, Praise the Lord! My dad is almost 94 and my mom is 91. Amazing! The Lord has been so faithful to them. One thing they have both prided themselves on is leaving an inheritance for my brother, sister, and myself. It's really been their heart's desire to leave something of great value once they are no longer here. We as their children appreciate it, but we also don't put all our hope in that. Life is never so certain, even with all the perfect planning, things can go awry without much warning. I would also argue that a financial inheritance is great, but our parents have already left a much greater inheritance or legacy if you will. Mainly the introduction to Jesus as our Lord and Savior. That has an eternal legacy, a priceless inheritance.

Speaking of a priceless inheritance, if you are a true Christ follower you have a priceless inheritance. 1 Peter gives a great description of that priceless inheritance in the Bible.

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by His great mercy that we have been born again because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance, an inheritance that is kept in Heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of decay. 1 Peter 1:3-4

Just reading that gives me such hope. How about you? A priceless inheritance. And did you notice where it's being kept?

IN HEAVEN......pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay!

Peter tells us that all praise and glory go to God our Father who raised Jesus Christ from the dead. And because He lives, we can face today and tomorrow with absolute certainty that this priceless inheritance will never go away. And this inheritance was given by the mercy and grace of God. We are born again and look forward to the fulfillment of our complete salvation on the day of Jesus' return!

Again, the Lord is keeping that priceless inheritance for us in Heaven. I'm pretty sure that's better than even a safety deposit box. :). Paul David Tripp describes it this way as we wait to receive that inheritance; "believers are living between the "already" and the "not yet", in your relationship to Jesus Christ."

Peter says in this way.....

Though you have not seen Him, you love Him. Though you do not now see Him, you believe in Him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1:8-9

"In the New Testament, the inheritance is the spiritual benefit and eternal salvation that God promises to His people."

We have hope for the final rescue from sin and death at the time of Christ's return. This hope should encourage all believers to persevere and endure till the end. And because we are united with Christ, the Lord has a priceless and eternal inheritance for you and me. As His adopted children we have no worries that this priceless inheritance will ever go away. It will remain pure and never decay. And even greater than that, this inheritance will last for all eternity.

That my friend is something to rejoice and celebrate! So today, be filled with faith-filled joy knowing that you have an inheritance coming that includes spending all of eternity with Jesus!
